gum disease bad breathAt the International Association for Dental Research, a team led by Dr. Kenichi Hojo from the Tsurumi University in Japan presented ther results of a research study, in which two dozen subjects with gum disease bad breath, ate sugar-free yogurt twice daily for six weeks.

Samples collected from the tongue and saliva revealed that eighty percent of the subjects, had as a result achieved lower levels of sulfide compounds, that greatly contribute to gum disease bad breath, as well as achieved a significant reduction in plaque and gingivitis.
Now, take very careful note that the yogurt in the Tsurumi University research study, was fermented with an abundance of beneficial bacteria, namely streptococci and the lactobacilli.

In yet another presentation, green and black tea extracts were seen as of benefit to dental health. Comparing the effects of gren and black tea extracts on three species of bacteria, researchers have found that extracts of both teas significantly inhibit growth of oral bacteria, a mini version of gum disease treatment naturally. Of course the results are less tooth decay which is a bit of help in the realm of periodontal disease and loose teeth, lower risk of strp throat and the bonus is that gum disease bad breath tends to disappear.
